DEFINING THE COLUMNS FOR INDEX SCORE SCREEN This screen lists the daily trading indicators of all the optionable indices and exchange composite indices, for quick comparisons. (also see index ranges and index diary pages. Column 1 Index Ticker Symbol Column 2 Net Change: (current closing price) - (yesterday's closing price) Column 3 Market Score: short term indicatorn for the day in each index. Did the index... 1. Make a higher high or lower low than yesterday? 2. Open up or down on the day? 3. Close up or down on the day? 4. Close in the upper or lower 50% of today's range? 5. Close above or below today's open? 6. Make a higher low or lower high than yesterday? 7. Close above yesterday's high or below yesterday's low? A bullish indicator -- such as making a higher high than the day before is scored +1. The opposite making a lower low is scored -1 (if the market makes both a higher high and lower low than the day before, then no score or +0 is given). The pluses and minuses are then added together. A total score of +7 is bullish; -7, bearish. Column 4 Advancing/Declining Volume Ratio: The formula is the 4 day average of advancing volume/advancing+declining volume of each index. Following the advancing/declining volume ratio will help keep you trading with price trend in the each index. A ratio over 50% indicates an up trend; under 50%, a down trend. The higher (or lower) and more persistent the ratio, the stronger the trend. Column 5 Overbought/Oversold Indicator: The formula is (high-open)+(close-low)/(2*(high-low)) Buy on the day following a reading of 30% or less, and sell on the day following a 70% or higher reading.
